Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure:

Just a quick run

I got up this morning after sleeping in until 5:45am and headed out.  I was going along at a fairly okay pace when I realized I forgot my house key.  Then I started picking it up.  I didn't want Mike to leave and lock me out of the house.  I don't run with my cell phone so I couldn't call him and let him know.  So I shortened my run and ran faster.

It felt good to push it on the second half.  I only did a mile and a half, but the last mile was really moving for me.  Maybe I should forget my key all the time.

Only 9 more days until the Warrior Dash!!!!!!  I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm a little nervous, but it's going to be a blast!  I'm really looking forward to it.  I have to make the t-shirt for James.  He wants one with a viking helmet on it.  He is then going to decorate it with fabric markers.  I'll work on that this weekend and he can decorate it on Tuesday.  He is so cute about it too.  He keeps reminding me that I still need to make the shirt.  he won't let me forget it at all.

Today I am at Provincials all afternoon.  I am hoping that the kids swim well.  I except one of the boys to do really well.  The others will be hit or miss.  We'll just have to see.  I'm there tomorrow as well, so I'll get up and go for a run again.  Saturday we have a wedding to go to and Sunday we are doing some housework.  It's going to be busy, but it will be fun!

Just Keep Swimming

The swim season itself is winding down.  I have 5 kids swimming Provincials this weekend and a couple swimming Open Water Provincials on Wednesday.  As far as practice and water stuff that's it for me until September.  Now, all the other stuff is just ramping up.

We are in the midst of a huge publicity/fundraising/sponsorship push.  I'm printing up flyers and finishing up a media package to hand out to businesses.  I will be hitting the pavement to get sponsors for our t-shirts, meets, heat sheets, and many other things starting next week.  I have to be honest...it's a bit out of my comfort zone as I have to talk to strangers.  I will be fine though and am excited to take on this challenge.   That means that my printer is going all time, but that's okay.  It also lets me be creative and have some fun.

I'm also getting things in order for next season. I'm starting on my short course training plan and looking at my group make-up.  It should be a great season and I'm really looking forward to September.  Just have to get through the summer first!

Summer evenings with the family

I am really enjoying my evenings at home.  We get to eat dinner together and then we take the dogs for a walk.  The past two nights have been great!!!!!

Tonight we stopped at a playground and James had a ball.  The dogs ran around like crazy.  James played for about 20 minutes.  Mike and I just enjoyed being outside together.

We got home and James went into his room to read.  He read for a good hour before he came downstairs to read to us.  His books of choice....Captain Underpants: The Adventures of Super Diaper Baby.  He loves those books.  He was reading and cracking himself up.

Right now I'm so beat as I didn't sleep last night.  Things were racing through my head.  I finally fell asleep about 1:30 and had to get up at 3:45.  It's been a long day.

Tomorrow I get up early and go for a run then head to a coach's meeting and practice.  I should be home by noon though.  Thursday and Friday I'm at Provincials.  Saturday is a wedding and Sunday we are cleaning and relaxing.

It's a busy week, but I love it that way!

12 More Days

This past winter I signed up for the Warrior Dash.  It's basically a 5k with obstacles.  Well, only 12 more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I'm so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have James that weekend so we're making it a fun little trip.  Its in Barrie so we're going to stay in a hotel on Friday and then I run Saturday morning at 10am!

To that end, I got up and ran almost 2.5 miles this morning.  It felt good, but I can tell you that I didn't want to go at all.  Mike finally asked me if I was getting up to run or not.  I'm glad he did because I felt really good.  Tomorrow morning I have practice, but when I get home I'll put on my running shoes and head out.  It will be later in the morning, but still should be calm and quiet.  I actually may head over to Huron Park and get a trail run in.  I have my first trail run in 3 weeks.  I'm a bit nervous about that, but it should still be fun.

Today is a busy day of grocery shopping, cleaning, and making 300 flyers for the swim team.  I have practice this afternoon.  It's my groups last long course practice until next season.  Should be fun!

James has 2 more days of school, today and Wednesday then he'll be a first grader!  He's very excited to get to "actually learn something."  He is convinced that he didn't learn anything in SK.

Summer is off and running at a sprint!  Can't wait to enjoy every minute of it!

The start of summer fun

Today was the start of our summer fun!  We have all sorts of fun planned the next month and a half and today was just the start of all the excitement.

We got up and had to get dressed.  That started the adventure off.

We went for breakfast at Cora's.  Yummy food and tons of fruit.  After breakfast it was home to start learning how to ride our new two wheeler!

James even had time to help me remember how to ride a bike.

James also wanted to practice his skateboard skills, so we all got on "board."  LOL

After all the bike and skateboard fun, we took the dogs for a walk to the playground near us.  James had fun playing on the equipment and Mulder had fun making dirt angels.

After our walk we went to Victoria Park.  We went to go play and take another walk, but we discovered that the Multicultural Fair was going on.  We got to enjoy that instead!  James made a mask, got to hold a bird, and we still got our walk in.

It was a wonderful day and we are all very tired.  This was just the first weekend of summer fun!

Tomorrow I get up and go for a run as I only have 2 more weeks until the Warrior Dash!!!!!  I can't wait to run that race!!!!!!

Father's Day Weekend

It has been a really busy weekend!!!!!  Friday Mike and I grilled steaks, shrimp, asparagus and lobster stuffed portobello mushrooms.  We then went to see Pirates.  It was our date night.  Things have been so crazy that we haven't had one in awhile.

Saturday he came to the University and helped me set up for tye dying with the swimmers.  Then we went to Toronto to the Northern Ink Xposure convention and Ben gave me my new tattoo.  I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It's just amazing!!!!!!!!!!!  He did such a wonderful job on it!

Sunday we got James and went to a local conservation area to swim at the beach.  James and Mike had a ball.

Now I just have to motivate myself to run.  I've been feeling very sluggish lately and very lazy.  I have 3 weeks until the Warrior Dash and I'm really looking forward to that as well as my other races in July.  I'm just so tired lately.  I need to get a set schedule and stick to it.  That's what seemed to work for me last summer and all winter.  This spring has just gone to pot.  I think after this week things will start to settle down and I'll be okay, but ugh...I feel so icky.

This week is the final push before our yard sale and craft/bake sale.  I'm getting the rest of the house organized and cleaned.  Pricing things for the yard sale.  Baking cakes and cupcakes for not only our sale, but for James' school.  Its going to be a busy week so I need all my energy and motivation.  Saturday will be another crazy busy day and everything has to be done by then.  So off I go!!!!!!

Feeling better

Since I took yesterday off, my knee is feeling better.  I did get a short walk in yesterday.  James and I walked to Uncle Pat and Aunt Kristie's for dinner last night.  Today I'm taking it easy as far as exercise.  I will be working and scrubbing floors so I'm getting some hard stuff in.

Tomorrow is going to be a really busy day.  During practice I will be setting up for our 36 Provincial swimmers to tye dye shirts.  Then I have to show them how to do it.   I will leave them to do their thing and Mike and I head to Toronto so I can get my next tattoo.  Ben is doing it at a convention there.  Then we have to go to Hamilton for my race.

Sunday we are spending Father's Day at a local beach.  James is really looking forward to it.  I am too. I have been homesick for the ocean so this will help a tad.  I know it's not the ocean and just a small lake, but right now I'll take what I can get.

Next week I will be in a baking frenzy.  I have to bake for the fun fair that James is having a school and for our craft/bake sale.  It will be fun though.

Its going to be a really busy next few days, but I'm looking forward to it.

Frustrated Still

Woke up this morning to go for a run and I couldn't walk down the stairs without pain in my knee.  I'll take today off and see how I feel tomorrow.

I hate this crap!  I will do some work this summer to strengthen my gluts and hamstrings to help the knee.  That should help it feel a bit better.

I hate injuries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I know when you play sports there are going to be injuries, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating.

Its a huge mental blow too.  I have a race on Saturday and I'm already worried about it.  I just have to go out and do what I can and do the best I can.  I just hate adding any time because once again I'm my own worst critic.

Feeling Discouraged

I'm just not happy with my running right now.  I realize that I took almost 2 weeks off and am now having to get back to where I was before.  I feel like I'm moving along at an okay pace, but then I see how long it took me and exactly how far I ran and I'm not happy at all.  Today I ran 2k in 26 minutes and I thought I ran further and a bit faster.

Physically I feel okay.  I had to wear my knee brace because that's bugging me a bit, but other than that I feel okay.  I'm just really upset about how I'm running.  I have my goal by September 24th to be under 30 minutes for the 5k.  I'm afraid that I will be setting myself up for disappointment.  I know that I'm way to hard on myself and I have to learn to just be happy that I did my best, but that's not good enough for me.  I want to be better than just okay.  I guess I'll just keep on going and know that I have that goal in mind.

I also have to realize that even though I have these goals, I am also running becuase I enjoy it.  I love the early morning runs and the peace and quiet that comes with them.  I just need to focus on that.

Where has June gone??????

I can't believe that June is half over!!!!  I have been crazy busy with swim meets for 3 weeks in a row which has caused me to go into sloth mode.  Yuck!  I did get up and go for a short run today and I could feel every step.  Ugh...I have to get back on a good schedule.  I have a race on Saturday so I want to be in some sort of running shape, but I have a feeling that it will not go well.  I hope I'm wrong though.

Saturday will be a very busy day for us.  Mike has to help me take t-shirts to the University for tye dying.  I will demonstrate how to do it and then we head to Toronto for my next tattoo.  Ben, Mike's cousin, will be doing it for me.  I'm getting 2 cardinals in cherry blossom tree on my right shoulder.  After that we leave to head to Hamilton for my race.  Lots of driving, but lots of fun!

Sunday is Father's Day and I have to go to a swim meet to watch one swimmer go for her Pre-Req in the 400 IM.  She got her Provincial cut in the 200 fly, but still need her 400 IM pre-req.  She should get it though.  After that I have to head home so James and I can spoil Mike.  Not sure what we're doing yet, but I'll figure something out.  Last year we went to the air show, but that's not going on over Father's Day this year.  We'll see.

Well, off to do some work.  I think I'm going to get our bedroom organized and will work on the kitchen on Thursday since I have the whole day off.  Off I go!  If you don't hear from me you'll know the dust bunnies took me hostage.
